    Dammers Residence

Erin Mixson Interiors remodeled a kitchen that hadn’t been updated in 50 years. Antique worn white beams and rich limestone floors added warmth to the off-white walls and cabinets, and the pale stained island creates a feeling of an old farm table.

Goals: To update an original kitchen in a home built in 1967. The architect was William Hughes, Jr. and Erin Mixson Interiors focused on modernizing it for a large family. Appliances had never been changed before this redesign!
Strengths and challenges: The low ceilings were the biggest challenge for the designers. To open the kitchen to adjacent spaces and create a more open floor plan, load bearing walls had to be re-engineered to work with the new design. The character of the older home and the incredibly talented craftsmen involved stood out as strengths in this project.
Result: A modern kitchen that flows seamlessly with the original architecture. The space works well for the couple and their four boys. There is a study area, coffee bar, and sitting area. With the open floor plan, designers were able to accommodate a 48″ range and both a 36″ refrigerator and freezer.
